Harwich International Container Terminal will generate up to 772 new jobs directly and many more in supporting industries and services. It will play a valuable role in securing long-term employment for many local people.
 
Harwich International Port is committed to high standards of training and development. Vocationally competent instructional staff are supported by nationally qualified assesors to ensure the consistency and maintenance of best practice and these will be extended with the addition of the new terminal.
 

Training

Coupled with the added investment and associated benefits that the expansion of the Port will bring, Harwich is well on its way to becoming a new vibrant employment centre for the East coast.
 
The development will create jobs in the following areas:
 
information technology
engineering – civil, mechanical and electrical
operations planning
human resources
management and supervisory
stevedoring/quayside work
finance and accountancy

 
There will be further employment opportunities in the ancillary businesses which will support the Port activities:
 
haulage
warehousing and distribution
legal and accountancy
freight forwarding
catering and support services
statutory and regulatory bodies, eg. Customs and Excise

 
HICT will benefit from, and in turn contribute towards, the combined pool of knowledge and experience of the ports and shipping sector that already exists in the Haven Gateway area.
